In Lake Hjälmaren you can fish freely with hand gear in both public and private waters. In public waters and in Mellanfjärden's free fishing area, fishing is free for everyone and you can use hand gear such as rods, jigs and the like equipped with line and a maximum of ten hooks. In private waters, fishing with hand gear is also allowed for everyone, but methods that require the use of a boat, such as rowing and trolling, are prohibited.
