Holiday by pleasure boat
Around Hjälmare Canal you can experience both culture and nature. The canal winds through a landscape that alternates between open farmland and wooded areas. Along the canal there are a number of jetties you can moor at, such as Gravudden, Hällby, Kvarnsjön and Notholmen. Kvarnsjön has a bathing area with a bathing hut and toilet, and the best places to stay overnight are at the guest harbors.
It takes about ½ - 2 days for the journey between Gravudden and Notholmen. Feel free to take a little extra time to enjoy the natural and cultural experiences and activities offered along the canal in peace and quiet.
Time for travel
Taking a boat through the locks requires at least one person on board. The lock keeper leads the work and manages the locking process. Fenders are needed to protect against lock walls and adjacent boats. The boat is moored with bow and stern ropes as instructed by the lock staff. When the water level rises, the lines are taken "home". When traveling in the opposite direction, the lines give way when the water level drops. Of course, everyone in the boat must wear a life jacket.
